- Kaka said he was on the verge of joining Man City.
- Man City agreed to pay AC Milan $100M for the Brazilian.
- Kaka eventually joined Real Madrid that summer.
Former Ac Milan and Real Madrid midfielder Kaka has revealed that he came very close to joining Manchester City from AC Milan in January 2009.
Man City who were yearning to recruit some of the world’s best footballers following their takeover by Sheikh Mansour targeted Kaka and had a £100 million bid accepted for him. However Orlando City midfielder, admitted that he had major concerns about the move because he wasn't sure it would be of benefit to him.
Kaka told Four Four Two:
“Negotiations went very far indeed. The only thing separating City and I was my final word." "It came to the point where all of the numbers and the finer details had been discussed. The wages I had been offered were much, much higher than what I was earning with Milan."
"I found myself wondering what my life playing in England would be like, what my routine at this new club would be, how difficult it would be for my kids and my wife to move home. All of these thoughts were swirling inside my head.".
Kaka eventually moved to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, though it was not as great as his time at Ac Milan which saw him win the Ballon d'Or in 2007.
He made 120 appearances for the Los Blancos, winning one La Liga and the Copa del rey.
